"You listen to Cassus Fett, and your son's sons will have nothing to do—because you'll have conquered everything!"―Cassus Fett to Gormer[2]Cassus Fett was a Mandalorian Field Marshal who lived during the time of the Mandalorian Wars. Fett was an aide-de-camp to Mand'alor the Ultimate, leader of the Mandalorians, and he was highly influential in areas throughout Mandalorian society.Fett spearheaded the promotion of the Neo-Crusader movement, a sect of Mandalorian society with a more regimented structure and standardized armor than the hitherto dominant Mandalorian Crusaders. By exerting control over the clans and providing a means of converting conquered cultures into Neo-Crusaders, Fett turned the Mandalorians into a war machine intent on galactic conquest. On the Outer Rim, Fett engaged the forces of the Galactic Republic in a series of battles, including a massacre of the Cathar leading to their near annihilation as a species on the planet Cathar. He engineered a number of minor engagements at the edge of Republic space to determine the strength of the Republic, before launching into a full-scale invasion of Republic space along three fronts in 3963 BBY.Fett was present at the preliminary Battle of Vanquo, led the siege of Taris and eventual conquest of that world, planned an invasion of the planet Alderaan, and killed the captain of a Republic flagship at the Battle of Jaga's Cluster. After becoming the most wanted man in the galaxy, Fett was presumed dead by the time of the Jedi Civil War. Many years later, two other members of his Clan, Jango and Boba Fett, would live up to the clan set's legacy with their skill.Biography[]Rise to power[]The origins of Cassus Fett were largely unknown in the galaxy; Republic Intelligence was unaware of where he came from, and even few of his fellow Mandalorians knew, though it was known that he was Human. After the close of the Great Sith War and the defeat of the Mandalorians in it, a new Mandalore rose to power, styled Mandalore the Ultimate. Mandalore, looking to redefine Mandalorian identity, called together a number of talented advisors with abilities beyond battle and war, amongst them Fett. Fett became Mandalore's aide-de-camp[1] and top strategist;[3] he was highly influential, both on the battlefield and off. He helped convert the disorganized rabble of the Mandalorians into an efficient, regimented organization.[1] Cassus Fett and Mandalore the Ultimate. Whereas the Mandalorians before Fett's time had simply conquered worlds without bringing them into the fold of Mandalorian culture, Fett saw a need to use their conquests to their advantage. He and Mandalore the Ultimate took notice of a cult that had sprung up amongst the Mandalorians. Known as the Neo-Crusaders, this group lived on the planet Mandalore; they broke from Mandalorian

His sin that he even traveled to Mandalore in the first place. Then there are those like Bo-Katan who aren’t so hung up on tradition. She and her followers have no problem with removing their helmets, and they seem to view the Children of the Watch with a mixture of bemusement and disgust. There are also Mandalorians like Boba Fett who are complete outsiders and make their way through the galaxy as loners and free agents. And for the record, Boba confirmed in Season 2 that his father was a Mandalorian, having been adopted as a Foundling much like Din. Though some in the galaxy might argue Boba, as a clone of Jango, doesn’t deserve the same recognition. Boba himself seems to care more about honoring his father than adhering to any particular Mandalorian code. One of the most important takeaways from “The Mines of Mandalore” is that the Mandalorians aren’t just divided, but actively warring against one another. With no clear leader in place to rally the people of Mandalore, they’ve taken to fighting amongst themselves. Their situation is as dire as it was during the events of the Knights of the Old Republic games (which may not be part of the Disney canon right now, but still offer some valuable insight into Mandalorian culture). When the Jedi General Revan defeated Mandalore the Ultimate and hid his helmet, the Mandalorians were left adrift and leaderless for years. There’s a new sense of urgency to Din’s character arc now. Accepting his destiny as Mandalore’s new leader isn’t just a matter of personal growth, but of true life or death. He and Bo-Katan have to put aside their differences and begin unifying the divided tribes of Mandalore. Otherwise they may continue to kill each other until they wind up finishing the Empire’s work. Tusk? Is that an eye? She gasps as she sees a mammoth creature whose head is shaped like the symbol of the Mandalore. Yes. Bo-Katan just saw a real-life mythosaur. Um. Holy crap. Screenshot: Disney+ We’ll have more on the mythosaur soon but now is a good time for a quick flashback to The Book of Boba Fett. That’s where the Armorer said “The songs of eons past foretold of the mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore.” Were these myths? Or was she describing the third season of The Mandalorian? Will the mythosaur once again rise up, and with it bring a new age of Mandalore? If so, where do Mando and Bo-Katan fit in? Hopefully, we’ll find out. “The Mines of Mandalore” started off very shaky—I’m still not over the IG/R5 thing—but his capture, her rescue, and the reveal of the mythosaur represented such exciting, focused storytelling, it gave us grand hope for what’s to come. The Mandalorian season three is now streaming on Disney+. Want more io9 news? Merchant on Korriban.[23]During the Mandalorian Civil War between the Mandalorian Tra'tade and the Hidden Chain, Durn Wynnward reflected upon Fett's influence concerning the Neo-Crusaders and their rise under his leadership.[24]Personality and traits[] Cassus Fett. Cassus Fett was almost unrivaled in his knowledge of tactics and held a reputation as a master of command.[1] A methodical man, he was the architect of many of Mandalore's victories in the war,[11] and by the time of the invasion of Taris he held the position of Field Marshal.[14] He was knowledgeable in a number of languages, including High Galactic and Mando'a. Fett's influence extended throughout Mandalorian affairs, reshaping their entire culture. His contributions to Mandalorian strategy ranged even down to the mundane matters of traffic control.[1] Fett's notions of exerting control over the Crusaders and utilizing logistics were foreign to the Mandalorians, but they aided the Mandalorian cause greatly, turning them into a force capable of threatening the Republic's influence on the galaxy.[4] Fett also used trickery as a tactic, which fellow Mandalorian Rohlan Dyre considered to be disreputable and a mark against Mandalore the Ultimate for relying on it.[21] While Fett understood that his system was unorthodox to the Mandalorians and their nomadic way of life, he believed it would bring them ultimate victory.[2] Fett was known by his fellow Mandalorians for the ruthless tactics he used, willing to wipe out millions to preserve the greater cause of his people.[18] He would freely kill large populations for revenge, to eliminate a potential threat, or to preserve Mandalorian honor.[3][6][18] Republic propaganda portrayed Fett as Mandalore the Ultimate's thug.[17]Fett considered the Mandalorians to be a new order, replacing the old order of Republic rule. He spoke of himself as a liberator of worlds, believing that the Republic's inability to defend them made it unworthy of those worlds' allegiance, and offering the path of the Neo-Crusaders to them with the promise of joining the Mandalorians in victory. Though he offered peace to those who joined the Mandalorians, he would not brook betrayal and promised death to those who feigned loyalty.[14] Fett did not trust his enemies easily, but once convinced of their sincerity, he was willing to put himself in their debt and repay those same debts.[20][18][22]Fett had little in the way of peers or friends. He held rivalries with other Mandalorians, such as Demagol and Pulsipher, and was glad to hear when they were reported dead.[1] Even Mandalore's appreciation of Demagol did not prevent Fett from aiding in his death.[22] For his part, Pulsipher did not think highly of him and was upset at the amount of resources Mandalore put in Fett's hands.[20]Equipment[]To show his support for the color-coded system of armor he helped implement,

She joined forces with Din Djarin and others to rescue Grogu from Gideon.
