The traditionally used labels BC and AD were replaced with BCE and CE for the sake of including all religions. The Jewish academics were the first ones to adopt this system and have been using it for over a hundred years. They argued that the BC/AD system was controversial because its origin was rooted in Christianity. Since the Gregorian calendar had assumed a level of international importance, they decided that it might be offensive to people who are not Christians. Another reason for adopting this system was because of an error in the birthdate of Jesus Christ. Many believed that Christ was actually born two years before AD 1. In that case, the AD/BC system would be inaccurate. The BCE/CE system was more suitable in this regard. This was because it did not refer to any particular date as the birth date of Jesus. However, it still followed the general rule and used 1 CE (or AD 1) as its starting point. The terms CE and BCE surfaced during the 'Vulgar era' in the 17th century. However, the definition of vulgar does not correspond to the modern-day word meaning crude or indecent. Instead, it is derived from the Latin word 'Vulgaris' meaning ordinary or common. Thus, this era was named keeping the common people in mind.Use of BC and AD dating system Although the BCE/CE dating system has been developed as an alternative to the BC/AD system, the latter is still widely used throughout the world. As per statistics, most people who object to the new system do so because they believe that the importance of Jesus Christ is being erased.Others justify it by saying that developing a secular dating system makes no sense since the Gregorian calendar is supposed to be a Christian Calendar itself. Moreover, some people also argue that both these systems might cause confusion among people. The English language is highly influenced by foreign languages, taking many words and phrases from French, German, and especially Latin. Usually, these words change in spelling and pronunciation to take on the phonetics of the language they are adapted into. Occasionally, a few stay the same as they have always been.Ad nauseam is the perfect example of a phrase that has stayed true to its pronunciation, spelling, and meaning for hundreds of years. This Latin-inspired phrase is an excellent way to let somebody know you are sick of something. Let’s explore its etymology, proper spelling, and usage. What Does Ad Nauseam Mean?In modern English, the Latin loanword ad nauseam—originally meaning, literally, to sickness—is an adverb meaning to a disgusting or ridiculous degree. It usually applies to an action repeated so often that one gets literally or figuratively sick of it.Because ad nauseam has been in English for a long time, there’s no need to italicize it in normal use — which is required when borrowing other, less well-known words or phrases from other languages. For example:Channel 7 has played and replayed that awful laundry freshener commercial ad nauseam; at this point, I’ll watch any channel but that one just to avoid it.The divisive argument has been played out ad nauseam, and I’ve heard both sides’ complaints too many times to count. At this point, every detailed aspect of the referee’s call during last night’s game has been broken down ad nauseam, and we are exhausted from the trash talk.Ad Nauseam or Ad Nauseum: Which Spelling Is Correct?Unfortunately, many people spell the term incorrectly, using ad nauseum rather than ad nauseam. The correct spelling is ad nauseam. Be sure to avoid the common misspelling of replacing the -a with a -u.Ad Nauseam OriginsAd Nauseam usage trend.Nausea is a 15th-century Latin word to mean “vomiting” from Ionic Greek nausea to mean “seasickness or ship-sickness” since naus means “ship.”Ad is a Latin prefix to mean “to,” creating the meaning “to sickness” when added to nausea.Despite the etymology, the English adaptation has never limited nausea or ad nausea to seasickness and applies it to other areas of general unwellness. In fact, in the 16th century, nausea was shortened to nase or nasy as a slang word to mean “hopelessly drunk.”Today, it generally means to have an upset stomach, to feel queasy, or to feel as if one might vomit. And, of course, ad nausea is also popularly used as a figurative form of speech, as explained above.Let’s ReviewAd nauseam is a Latin term to mean “to sickness” and is used in a figurative sense to point to a disgusting or ridiculous degree. Will be spent over the course of that ad’s lifetime. With a daily budget, though, your money continues to be spent every single day that an ad runs. In this way, sponsored product ads can become quite expensive. It’s very important to set weekly, if not daily, reminders to monitor your ad costs so there are no surprises for your bank account. The amount you spend on an ad is entirely up to you. Remember what we mentioned about CPC (Cost Per Click) earlier in our article? You pay Amazon for your ad when the ad gets a click. Even if one million people see your ad on Amazon, but no one clicks on it, you won’t be charged. But if one million people click on your ad? You’ll be paying a lot – but hopefully making a lot of sales, too! Try to remember that when you set a budget for your ads, it doesn’t mean that Amazon will be spending all of it every single day. As I’m typing this, Written Word’s Amazon Advertising account has one ad running with a $10.00 daily budget. The actual amount Amazon has spent from that budget so far today? $0.43. Yep, forty-three cents based solely off of how many people have clicked the ad today. When you set a budget for your ads, think about if you want to run these with an end date. If you decide to set a certain end date, your ad will stop running on the day of your choosing. However, if you do not set an end date, the ad will continue to run until you manually stop it. Remember what we said about frequently checking your ad cost! High daily budget, along with no end date, can create costly ad campaigns. The more you spend on Amazon ads, the more likely they are to run and to appear in more primo locations on the website. A key example of this is Leslie Wolfe’s sponsored product ad that appeared directly underneath the search bar:The proximity of Leslie Wolfe’s ad to the search bar means high impression numbers. Please note that an ad position like this is highly competitive – and won’t necessarily be available to every author.Chances are she had high bids to earn that ad spot. When you click on an individual ad campaign on the homepage of the Amazon Advertising site, you’ll be able to access your “Campaign Settings”. This is where you can crank up your bid numbers or adjust bids by placement.Test ad placement by cranking up those bid numbers.Want to earn a Lisa Wolfe top-of-the-search-bar slot for your ad? You’ll need to adjust your bid so that a higher percentage is. AD actually means Anno Domini, meaning years of our lord. In conclusion, AD is during the time Jesus lived. AL is after Life. Remember exciting movies about stock brokers yelling numbers at a noisy trading floor? Today, rooms full of servers execute millions of trades every second. They don’t look as thrilling, but their productivity, precision, and accuracy make them irreplaceable. Over the previous years, the same has happened to the advertising field: programmatic advertising technologies replaced ad negotiations and lengthy decision-making processes. And it’s just the beginning! In this article, we’ll catch a glimpse of the future. We’ll explore current trends in programmatic advertising, discuss the role of demand-side platforms (DSPs) in the programmatic ecosystem, and help you choose the best DSP for achieving outstanding results in 2025. Ready? Let’s go! Programmatic DSP: What's That and Why You Need It Programmatic DSP and programmatic advertising aren’t synonyms. Programmatic advertising is the broader term describing automated ad buying and selling in real-time. It includes various technologies and platforms. A demand-side platform (DSP) is a tool for advertisers that allows them to buy ad impressions from multiple ad exchanges through a single interface. DSP and programmatic DSP, however, are synonyms: all DSPs operate programmatically by default. Programmatic DSP Meaning To make the programmatic DSP meaning more captivating, imagine a universe with different star systems and spaceships traveling between them. Like a universe with many centers of gravity (different star systems), the programmatic universe has multiple ad exchanges, such as Google Ad Exchange. A spaceship-DSP can travel between these star systems, looking for the best opportunities (ad inventory) for advertisers. Besides enabling programmatic buying of ad inventory, DSPs allow advertisers to set up targeting (by demographics, behavior, etc.), track performance, and optimize ad campaigns. How Programmatic DSP Works Any DSP relies on these fundamental mechanisms: Collecting and analyzing the data. Integration with data management platforms (DMP) helps DSPs learn more about and target audiences efficiently. Real-time bidding. When a customer visits a website, the DSP scrutinizes their data (interests, demographics, behavior, etc.) and considers the context, such as the time of day, the type of device, etc. Based on this information, the DSP decides whether to bid on this impression. If the answer is positive, the DSP participates in the automated auction, and in a few milliseconds, the visitor sees the winning ad. The most remarkable thing about DSP is its ability to learn from every auction and improve its performance. With time, it can make better bids, choose better ad placements, and win auctions more often. So, the answer to the question, “Why do I need DSP?” is quite apparent. Programmatic DSP helps you reach the customers exactly where they are, optimize your campaigns, and stay competitive. Programmatic Advertising in 2025: What to Expect In 2024, the programmatic advertising world welcomed many changes. Among the most influential was the beginning of the demise of third-party cookies. They aren’t dead yet, but the news about this has already forced advertisers to look for alternative targeting methods just to be safe if Google comes up with something new.
